Check the battery connections
Ensure terminals are clean and tightly connected, look for corrosion
Verify battery charge level
Use a multimeter to check voltage (should be 12.6V+ for lead-acid)
Check the ignition switch
Ensure key is fully inserted and turning smoothly
Inspect the seat safety switch
Sit firmly in seat - many forklifts won't start without operator seated
Check fuel level
For LPG/diesel units, verify adequate fuel supply
Look for emergency stop engaged
Check if the E-stop button has been pressed and reset it
Check for blown fuses
Inspect the main fuse box for any blown fuses
